Memorial Day last weekend marked the beginning of the summer vacation season for many across the country. But Trenton students don’t get out of school till June 25th– and public pools stay closed till late June and early July. Summer doesn’t even start till June 21st– so many summer programs and activities are slow to start.
But with recent temperature highs of 95-85 degrees heating Trenton and the rest of the state for the last month, Trentonites are facing an early summer season regardless. How can people beat the heat in this early Trenton summer?
Nothing cools you down like a cool river breeze. That’s why for this early summer Trenton library blog post, I will be highlighting all the many riverfront parks the local area has to offer. Although swimming is not allowed in these parks, they host activities throughout the year, and offer a convenient way to connect with nature in the busy city of Trenton.
Stacy Park

Stacy Park is one of the most cherished yet hidden parks in the whole city. The beautiful 0.7-mile trail goes alongside the Delaware Riverfront. Recently revitalized and reopened by the city in February 2025, the park features stunning natural views and a shady riverfront walk that is the perfect way to cool off in this early-summer heat. The best part is: the park is open all year round. Swimming is banned in this park, like all Trenton riverfront parks, but there are plenty of other activities to choose from.
On Saturday, June 6, 2026, the city of Trenton will host a 2026 youth fishing derby for students in grades 2-8. Admission is free for all participants, who will learn the basics of fishing, fishing safety, fish identification, and other water activities. The derby will take place at Stacy Pond (pictured above), located at the entrance of Stacy Park.
Space is limited, so parents should RSVP now!

Morrisville Riverfront Preserve

Located directly across the Trenton Makes, The World Takes bridge in neighboring Morrisville, PA, is the beautiful Morrisville Riverfront Preserve. Established in 2010 to maintain and preserve the wildlife and nature on the Delaware waterfront, the park offers stunning views of the river, the Trenton skyline, and local wildlife. The path is home to waterfalls, natural and man-made, old watermills and bridges, and plenty of species of trees and foliage. A beautiful nature oasis removed from city life, only a short walk or drive outside of Trenton.

Riverfront Park

Putting the River in Riverfront Park, this long dock offers the perfect place to relax on the Delaware River without actually having to get wet. Although swimming is banned at the park, the cool river breeze is hard to beat. Just up the street from the Trenton Thunder stadium, it is the perfect place to relax and chill after enjoying a baseball game or event in this blazing summer heat.
These are just some of the riverfront parks the Trenton-metro area has to offer. Trenton is a riverfront city, and there is no greater time to take advantage of that than this late spring early summer season. Many of these parks are in bloom, teaming with wildlife, beautifully framing the historic Delaware River.
Beat the early summer heat and make your way to these wonderful parks!
