Anyone who lives, works or learns in The City of Trenton or is a Trenton property owner may receive a library card with a valid government issued photo ID, proof of living, working, learning, or owning property in Trenton, and with the completion of a TFPL library card application.
Anyone who served in the US military and is a Veteran may receive a library card with a valid government issued photo ID, proof of service, and with the completion of a TFPL library card application.
Acceptable photo ID shall be one or more of the following:
- Valid driver’s license
- Valid state ID
- Valid Mercer County Community ID card
Acceptable proof of current address must have the person’s name and current address and shall be one or more of the following:
- Utility bill
- Property tax statement
- Canceled mail, postmarked within the last two months
- Typed lease
A non-resident who works within the City needs to present a valid government issued photo ID along with valid proof of employment, such as an Employee ID or paystub.
A non-resident who learns within the City needs to present a valid government issued photo ID along with a valid school ID or current schedule.
Senior Citizens, 65 and older, who do not live, work, or learn in the city may receive a library card with full borrowing privileges by completing the above steps and, in addition, paying an annual fee specified by the Library Board, currently $10.
Non-residents of Trenton who do not work or learn in the city may receive a library card with full borrowing privileges by completing the above steps and, in addition, paying an annual fee specified by the Library Board, currently $75.
Anyone under the age of 18 can receive a juvenile card after completing a “Youth TFPL Card Application” and securing the signature of his/her parent or legal guardian. Children must be present in order to apply for a library card. Emancipated minors who have proof of their court ordered emancipation, may receive an adult card without parental consent.
A Limited Library Card may be issued at the discretion of the Library Director to individuals who can produce valid New Jersey driver’s license or other government issued photo ID but whose living situation is unresolved such as a crisis center, half-way house, or other similar circumstances. The Director may require additional written documentation to verify the unresolved living situation. Limited Library Cards will allow use of the internet and the checkout of no more than two items.
