Crafts for Fall!

Leaves are changing, days are getting shorter, and spooky season is upon us. To celebrate the change in season, I have a few fun craft ideas that are hopefully more treat than trick. The first one is available as a take-home craft in the library now, so stop in to check it out! Happy crafting!
1. Book or Magazine Page Garlands

Do you have books or old magazines you no longer want to read, but aren’t sure what to do with? Repurpose them as material for a garland! Our current take-home craft uses old book pages and a so-cute-it’s-scary ghost template, but you can use whatever seasonal template you want!
- Gather your materials: any book or magazine you no longer want, scissors, a black marker or hole punch, string, tape or mini clothespins, and a template for the shape you want (can be found online). You could also free-hand the design, or pick up a kit at the library.
- Cut out shapes on sheets of paper using your chosen template.
- If you are making the ghost template, add eyes and mouth with a black marker if you would like to. You could also cut eyes out with scissors or use a hole punch. If you are doing your own template, you can add any decoration you like!
- Attach shapes to the string using tape, mini clothespins, or any other adhesive.
- Display wherever you would like!
2. Night Sky Pumpkins

(Slightly) less messy and labor intensive than carving pumpkins, but still a great way to get into the Halloween spirit (boo!).
- Gather your materials: pumpkins, hammer, flathead nails, marker or pen.
- Trace or draw a bat or crescent moon on your pumpkin.
- Fill in the shape by hammering your nails into the pumpkin.
- Enjoy!
3. Pinecone Bats

Create a whimsical family of bats using little more than pinecones and cardboard!
- Gather your materials: pinecones, cardboard or brown paper, scissors, googly eyes (optional), hot glue or other strong glue.
- Cut wings and feet from cardboard or brown paper.
- Glue wings to the back of pine cone and feet to the bottom using a hot glue gun or other strong glue.
- Cut ears from cardboard or brown paper and glue to the top of the pine cone.
- Add googly eyes if using.
