“poetree” slam

For Kids of All Ages! Did you know April is National Poetry Month? Help us decorate our “Poetree” in the library! Drop off a written copy of a poem that YOU wrote and we’ll hang it on one of the trees in the Children’s Room. Decorate your paper so your poem is sure to stand out! Can’t get to the library? No worries! You can also email us a copy of your poem and we’ll hang it for you ( email: tfpl.youthref@gmail.com.) OR Email us a video of you reading your poem and we’ll post it on social media. But make sure to stop by the library at some point, because everyone who submits a poem can pick out a book to keep AND a prize from the prize box!

The Cultural Phenomenon of Home DNA Testing: Presented by Libby Copeland

Libby Copeland is the author of The Lost Family: How DNA Testing is Upending Who We Are. This book explores the rapidly evolving phenomenon of home DNA testing, its implications for how we think about family and ourselves, and its ramifications for American culture broadly. The Wall Street Journal says it's "a fascinating account of lives dramatically affected by genetic sleuthing." The New York Times writes, "Before You Spit in That Vial, Read This Book." The Washington Post says The Lost Family "reads like an Agatha Christie mystery" and "wrestles with some of the biggest questions in life: Who are we? What is family? Are we defined by nature, nurture or both?" This presentation will discuss the extraordinary cultural phenomenon of home DNA testing, which is redefining family history. With more than 37 million people having been tested, a tipping point has been reached. Virtually all Americans are affected whether they have been tested or not, and millions have been impacted by significant revelations in their immediate families. This event will take place via Facebook Live.

119th Birthday Celebration

Trenton Free Public Library is turning 119 years old, and we are celebrating! On June 5th, 2021 from 11 am to 2 pm, the library will be hosting an outdoor celebration in front of the library. This event will feature an outdoor history exhibit, art projects for patrons, take-home crafts, and refreshments!

STEM Bucket Tower Challenge
