Reference Books and Periodicals

Trenton Public Library's Reference Department has over 15,000 reference books and periodicals including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Bible study and other religious references

  • African American and Hispanic Biographical Historical material

  • College profiles, financial aid and scholarship information

  • General Legal references, including the New Jersey Statutes and U.S. Code

  • Medical and drug references

  • Language and Literature, including style manuals and foreign language dictionaries

  • Biographical references, including Who's Who in America, the Dictionary of Literary Biography and others

  • Automobile references including Mitchell and Chilton foreign and domestic repair guides and reference copies of manuals for older American makes

  • A unique historical collection of original-copy periodicals covering many aspects of technology, ceramics, fashion, homemaking, education, popular culture, literature and art

     

    Newspapers

    We also receive five daily newspapers:

  • The Trenton Times

  • The Trentonian

  • The New York Times

  • USA Today

  • Wall Street Journal

    On microfilm, we have the Trenton Times and Trenton Evening Times from 1883 to the present; the Trentonian from September 1946 to the present; and the New York Times from 1851 to the present.

  • EbscoHost: A searchable on-line index to current magazines and journals which allows users to print many article in full text
     

  • The Trenton Times Index: Allows staff to search from 1991 forward a special on-line index of the Trenton Times and the Newark Star-Ledger

    Business and Technology Resources

    Materials from our former Business and Technology Department have moved to the 2nd floor General Reference Department. Business resources include:
     

  • Newspapers and periodicals dealing with business and technology
     

  • Business directories, including Dun & Bradstreet's, Consultant's Directory, Dalton's Philadelphia Metro Directory, Directory of NJ Manufacturers, Thomas Register, Sweet's Catalog

  • Job Information Center for jobseekers
     

  • Moody's Investor Service Manuals from 1939 to 1997, Moody's Bond Record and the Daily Stock Price Index from 1962

Federal Government Documents

The Trenton Public Library is a partial government depository and receives about 25% of all documents published by the U.S. Federal Government. Our holdings include the Federal Register, the Congressional Register, and census materials for the state of New Jersey.

Public Internet Access

The Internet Room is located on the 2nd floor and is administered by the Reference Department. It does not have regularly scheduled hours of operation and may occasionally be closed to the public. There are also a number of machines for word processing and resume preparation. All printouts are 10 cents each. Please see "Computer Resources" for more information.

A significant amount of the funding for the Computer Room at the Main Library and all of the computers and printers used to access the Internet at the Branches were provided by Technology Grants administered by the New Jersey State Library.

Color Copier Service

A state of the art color copier is available to the public. Color copies are $.50 per copy.

 

Music Resources

  • The Trenton Public Library holds 1,300 orchestral scores available for borrowing. (All borrowers must be members of ANJERO or NJMEA.)

  • The library also holds a large collection of sheet music for choral groups which may be copied by anyone. Call us with a title and details.

  • An index to our collection of over 55,000 songs is available.
