How do I get a library card?

Anyone that lives, works or goes to school in the City of Trenton is eligible for a FREE library card. This includes federal, state, county, and city employees. Your library card is welcome at any of our 5 locations. All students attending school in Trenton are also eligible for FREE cards. Non-residents must pay a nominal fee for a library card. Non-residents over 65 years old are eligible for a free library card.

Proof of age, residence, or employment are required. You may bring a driver's license, country ID, work ID, official mail addressed to you, pay stub or other official ID. Children under 18 will need the signature of a parent or guardian to receive a card.

Can I reserve a book by myself?

YES! From home or in the library, you can search for books on our library catalog www.youseemore.com/trenton, and place a hold.  You will need your library card number (it's on the back of your card).  You will be asked for your PIN number also.  Unless you've changed it with the Library staff, your PIN is 1234. Pick the branch you want the book to go to and we will call you when it arrives!

What if I lost my library card?

You may purchase a replacement card at any branch for 50 cents.

Yes. Computers for browsing the Internet (including email), accessing information online and word processing are available for public use at all Trenton Public Library locations. Sign-up is required and a 1/2 hour time limit is imposed for all computer work. When there are no other patrons waiting for computer use, you may stay on for additional time at the discretion of the the library staff.

Children under 13 may not use Internet computers without an adult present with them. Children age 13-18 must have a signed permission form returned to the library before using the Internet computers.

Some locations may have programs available such as Print Artist, Print Shop, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Publisher, Resume Deluxe and Typing Tutor. Can kids type their school reports on computers?

Children may use certain computers to do word processing. They are limited to a 1/2 hour to finish their work. Children must have their report written out before typing it on the computer. Children under 5 should not use the word processing computers without adult supervision. Children using computers should have basic knowledge of how to type their report. The library staff can only offer limited help to students and in some case, cannot offer any help to children because of staffing needs.

What happens if you don't have a book I need?

We make every attempt to get patrons the information they need, whether it's a book, magazine article or a request for information. If we do not own a requested book, we will check our other branches to check availability. If no branch owns the title, we may decide to purchase it or borrow it from another library through Inter-Library Loan (ILL). Not all titles can be found, especially older or more obscure works, but we make all efforts to locate your requested book before telling you that it's not available.
