Do I need a library card to use the library?
No! Library cards are needed to check out materials and use the computers, however everyone is welcome at the Trenton Free Public Library! Even if you do not have a card you are welcome to attend a program, read a book or use our wireless internet.
Where are the bathrooms located?
Bathrooms are located on the first floor beside the media box.
How do I get a library Card?
Trenton residents can obtain a card with a valid government issued photo ID with a Trenton address on it. If you have not updated your address on your ID a copy of your lease or a current bill with your Trenton address along with your photo ID will allow you to obtain a card.
If you do not reside in Trenton, but work or go to school within the city, bring your photo ID and paperwork from your employer/school that shows a Trenton address and your name.
If you do not live, work or go to school in Trenton and would like a library card we require photo ID, proof of address and a $75 fee.

How do I access the computers?
Computers are located on the second floor and you can sign into a computer using your library card number. If you do not live, work or attend school in Trenton you are eligible for a visitors pass for the computer.
What if I cannot get a library card?
If you are not eligible for a library card you are able to use our wireless internet, read materials inside the building and you can obtain a guest pass for computer access from the Reference Desk on the second floor.
How much does it cost to Print? Copy? Fax? Scan?
Printing in Black & White is 20 cents a page.
Printing in Color is 50 cents a page.
Photocopying in Black & White is 10 cents a page.
Photocopying in Color is 50 cents a page.
Faxing is 50 cents a page.
Scanning documents to email is free.
Does the Library provide change?
The Library is unable to break large bills ($10 and above). The machines will take $1 and $5 bills, and dispense coins as change. The machines are unable to accept bills larger than $5.
Do I need a library card to use the Fax machine, Scanner and/or copier?
No, you do not need a library card to use the Fax Machine, Scanner or Copier. It is available for anyone.
Where do I return materials?
Books are returned in the slot between the two sets of door entering the building.
DVD's from the media box are returned to the media box.
DVD's from the shelf and other materials are returned to the return slot inside the front door.
How many items am I allowed to check out?
You are allowed to check out a maximum of 25 combined items, with a maximum of 4 DVD's and 5 CD's.
How to renew items? Library items may be renewed for two additional loan periods, except in the following cases: A hold has been placed on the item by another customer. The item is an Interlibrary Loan.
Several ways to renew: *Call (609) 392-7188, ext 10. Must have your Library Card Number ready. *Visit Circulation Desk or Reference Service Desk at the library. *Log into your account using your Library Card Number or EZ Username.
How long can I keep the item I check out?
Books, audiobooks and playaways are checked out for 28 days.
Audio CDs are checked out for 14 days.
DVDs are checked out for 4 days.
You can renew items up to two times via our website, over the phone or in person.
Where do I pay my fines?
You can pay your fines at the computer terminal beside the front door of the library.
The machine will take Nickels, Dimes, Quarters, One Dollar Bills, & Five Dollar Bills. You are also able to use a debit or credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover) if the total is over $5.00
Is there Wifi in the library?
Yes! Our network is named TFPL-Wireless WiFi and there is no password to log on.
Are there any notaries available?
A list of notaries is available online or at the reference desk.
Am I able to park at the library?
Patrons are allowed to use the library parking lot only when they are using the library. Vehicles may be towed if you are found using the parking lot and not the library.
Do you have bus schedules available?
Bus information can be found on the NJ Transit website. We also have a small assortment of paper bus schedules at the reference desk.
